10 Best Wedding Songs for the First Dance

152. The Wedding Song (There is Love) by Noel Paul Stookey. You may have heard this song before (that's a bit of an understatement)It may be the most popular modern wedding song. Peter Yarrow asked Paul Stookey to write a song for his wedding, and this turned out to be such an epitome of marriage and love that it has become a classic. Paul did not feel right reaping all the song writing benefits from a piece he composed for his dear friend that he signed over all rights of the song to a charity. To this day, the charity reaps the benefit of one friend's love for another in music. You may know this two men better as part of Peter, Paul and Mary. Puff the Magic Dragon anyone?
My two cents on wedding songs.

158. Sorry to burst your bubble but Etta James is so black! I think that everyone has their own opinion and all of the profanity and racial slurs are so uncalled for.(16&51) I personally would not use any of these songs at my wedding but I have never heard many of them. These are not songs that I grew up listening to. So it's not a racial thing, it's a heritage thing. No person is alike and all black people are not associated with rap.(#51) I listen to a variety of songs. Ribbon in the sky- Stevie Wonder or How do I live- Leann Rimes are two great songs that should be added to the list...

It looks like my fiance and I are going to use Warmness on the Soul by Avenged Sevenfold(if not for first dance, as I'm walking into the ceremony) and When You Say Nothing at All by Allison Krauss and Union Station... We have also thought about Only Hope by Switchfoot... Lucky by Jason Mraz... Everything by Michael Buble'... I'll Be by Edwin McCain... there's actually a bunch we've thought about, but since we've got it narrowed down this far, I don't wanna think about it cuz I'll keep changing my mind.

164. Oh, and another that we had thought about but didn't figure we'd really wanna dance to would be It Is You (I Have Loved) by Dana Glover... It's from Shrek... My fiance's nickname is Shrek and after we started dating, a number of people said that we reminded them of Shrek and Fiona, which I personally, take as a compliment - they're so cute! We also like The Girl by City and Colour.

173. I worked as a DJ at singles dances for years before getting married, so I was familiar with a lot of popular songs, both old and new. When my girlfriend and I attended a nephew's wedding in California, I offered to help put together a playlist for the dance, but the bride said the DJ was a friend of hers who played great music. Imagine my shock when the song this 20-something kid played for the newlyweds' first dance was "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" by the Righteous Brothers!! When I went up to the stage to ask him what the heck he was doing, he looked dumbstruck and asked, "But it's a slow song, isn't it?" I proposed to my wife at Disneyland the next day, and just to make sure nothing like that would happen at our wedding 4 months later, I typed up a preferred playlist for our DJ (who was my bride's brother, by the way -- he was good-humored about it)! We now have 4 kids and our 14th anniversary is this month (and I gave up DJ'ing long ago).

191. I work as a professional singer and I've had the great pleasure of singing 'live' First Dance tunes for newly weds.
One of my favourite moments was when I was asked to surprise the Bride by singing 'She's A Lady' by Tom Jones, as they were signing the register in the church! All the congregation joined in and it was a really magic moment!

192. My husband and I will be married 32 years May 26. We were married in 1979 which explains our choice of song....."We've Only Just Begun" by The Carpenters.

193. First dance: Just the Way You Are by Billy Joel.
During the ceremony: Longer by Dan Fogelberg and Poems, Prayers and Promises by John Denver. That was an 80's wedding!
If I were to do it over today, I'd pick Then by Brad Paisley, When I Said I Do, or Something That We Do by Clint Black, and This I Promise You by NSync.
I think Then is the most romantic song ever.

151. Aaron Neville? Really? I wouldn't have him one any list of songs I'd ever compile. A real pity too because I would rate most of Linda Ronstadt's music as one of my top ten female vocalists.
