Antiquiet (3/5): "'No one's First'... explores new sonic territories and transitions previously unexplored. ...The strongest turn for the disc happens midway through with The Whale Song, a track that references bass lines and guitar work mingling in the vein of Jane's Addiction. ...Unlike other B-Side and afterthought compilations, this one strays from the musical flatulence that is usually collected and pushed on the masses."
Slant Magazine (2.5/5): "Modest Mouse's perfunctory b-sides collection... is rich with the band's trademarks: manic and self-deprecating disillusionment, ironic sing-alongs, and seething hot-cold vocal routines. In other words, nothing audiences haven't already heard from Modest Mouse. ...Boring when they're not acting out, but too jarring when hitting their groove, Brock and company are forced to toe a finicky line between normalcy and absurdity."
Consequence of Sound (3/5): "The good moments are few, but they are good enough to make the EP just a little worth it. ...'Satellite Skin' falls into the territory of 'Float On' in a tiresome way. ...By the time the frat bro's pick up on it, you'll be ready to throw it out the window. ...The songs feel old before they even get off the ground."
