53. What a putrid list. The number one song is a remake! Not even close to the best version! #10 by Elvis, isn't even in his top 10 of best Elvis tunes.

56. Judy is looking for "Baby" by Carla Thomas. This was originally on the Stax label. It should be easy to find, on a number of compilations and in particular on the Atlantic label. She is Rufus Thomas' daughter. While she cut a number of great sides and had several hits, the hits were spread out in terms of time. When "Baby" was a big hit, her label heavily promoted the song and her, hoping that she would be "the next big thing." Unfortunately, she had no real follow up to "Baby."
E. Cooper is looking for Peaches and Herb's "Close You Eyes." This is a great re-cutting of the song by the excellent 50's group The Five Keys.
E. Coopper may be looking for "Patches" by Dickie Lee. A bit morbid, but I like it, too! "Patches" was a big hit. There was a follow-up: "I Saw Linda Yesterday." Lee went on to quite a bit of success in the Country Music field. There is another hit record by Dickie Lee that's closer to what e. cooper wants. I'll try to find out what it is & post it later.

57. Part two for e. cooper: It took a few days to stimulate my poor old grey matter, despite the fact that e. cooper has a great hint! They specifically want "Strange Things Happen" by Dickey Lee. This was released on a different label (20th Century Fox, a subsidiary of the film company). Lee's previous hits were released on Smash, a subsidiary of the Mercury label. 20th Century Fox records had, in my opinion, relatively few hit records (at least until Barry White came along) despite the parent company's presence as a major motion picture company. Every so often a disc jockey will play a set of oldies centered around the theme, if you will, of "teen death."
Examples include "Teen Angel," "Tell Laura I Love Her," "Last Kiss," "Patches." "Leader of the Pack," and so on, and if they are a little bit adventurous and "hip": the satire "I Want My Baby Back." I feel that Pink Floid's "The Great Gig In The Sky" from "Dark Side of the Moon" can fit into this category. Then you have "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown," "Big Boy Pete," "Stagger Lee" (and "Stack-O-Lee") and "The Green Berets." "Strange Things Happen" was a big hit & is "strangely" enticing, despite the fact that it's way up there on the morbidity scale! A few years ago I purchased an album with Dickie Lee hits including "Strange Things Happen."
