Clapton was backed by Dire Straits for a surprise performance of the love tune at the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute in 1988.

'(Everything I Do) I Do It for You'

Bryan Adams

Written specifically for 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves,' the love song classic was originally offered to Kate Bush, Annie Lennox and Lisa Stansfield, all of whom declined.

'How Do I Live'

LeAnn Rimes

Directly following LeAnn Rimes' performance of the love song at the 1998 Grammy Awards, Trisha Yearwood snatched up the Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance...of the same song.

'We've Only Just Begun'

The Carpenters

This song of love was performed during a fictional marriage ceremony on 'The Steve Harvey Show.'

'When I'm With You'

Sheriff

Lead singer Freddy Curci is listed in the Guinness Book of Records for holding the longest note in a pop song in the final line of our No. 4 best love song ever.

'Right Here Waiting'

Richard Marx

American Idol contestant William Hung covered the love song on his solo album, 'Miracle: Happy Summer from William Hung.'

'Open Arms'

Journey

Guitarist Neal Schon "hated" this love song -- originally written by Jonathan Caine while in the band The Babys -- complaining that it sounded "kinda Mary Poppins."

'Because You Loved Me'

Celine Dion

The Canadian chanteuse's Grammy-winning love song hit was penned by songwriter extraordinaire Diane Warren, and was featured in the Robert Redford/Michelle Pfeiffer film 'Up Close & Personal.'

57. The Top 10 Love Songs?????.....really a crappy list EXCEPT for the Carpenters. Where are some of the classics?....Sinatra, Mathis, even Bread's "If". What in the world is Sheriff doing on here?....I'm happy to see at least a Carpenters song on here. Karen was & remains one of the FINEST & most beloved female singers of our time! 60. Puhlease! That Titanic song by Celine is the one most requested NOT to be sung at Weddings. And Whitney Houston doesn't SING, she screams her effin' brain out in that crappy song. And for the person who doesn't like Karen Carpenter's voice, get your hearing checked. I prefer her voice over any other female I've ever heard. Ironically, she wanted to be known as a good drummer, which she was also extremely good at.

Celine's #1 song? Thought "Falling Into You" from that CD was even better!

"Right Here Waiting"...Great! What about his "Now & Forever"? Awesome and profound lovesong!

Also,I love Clapton's music,but wouldn't have put "Wonderful Tonight" in the Top Ten.

Vying for the #4 Spot:

"Evergreen" by Barbra Streisand (Come'on!...This song has won so many awards,it's mind-blowing!NTM,it's my fav song.)
"How Deep Is Your Love" by the Bee Gees.Its omission from the list is blatantly apparent.No ignoring this song!
"I Go Crazy" by Paul Davis has also won quite a few awards and is one of the coolest songs because of its musical arrangement.
"Just The way You Are" by Billy Joel.I've heard this thousands of times on quite a number of stations,and never tire of hearing it.The music and the words...Come'on,...it's not in the top ten?!
"Longer" by Dan Fogelberg.This is another award winner! No avoiding this song either,and most if not all of his other songs.Awesome songwriter!Speaking of which...
"Danny's Song" by Kenny Loggins,amongst others of his.Who doesn't know the words to this song (at least the chorus)?

68. Have to say,...everyone lauding The Carpenters is right on the mark! Karen's voice,Richard's arrangements and playing...Can't get much better than that!

"Endless Love" is or was the best-selling duet of all-time.Should be in at least the Top Twenty!

Also,what about "I've Finally Found Someone" by Barbra and Bryan? Another award winner and incredible duet (songwriterwise too)!

73. What about Johnny Mathis, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole...only to mention a VERY FEW. Writers like Porter, Gershwin,and others of that era wrote timeless love songs..Ever listened to the lyrics to "You Go To My Head".Try this..."You Go To My Head, with a smile that makes my temperature rise,like a summer with a thousand Julys, you intoxicate my soul with your eyes. How romantic and poetic is that? How can anyone be so audacious as to single out THE 10 BEST LOVE SONGS". How about "10 of SOME of the best love songs through the years"? I do enjoy all the songs you've chosen,though celine's "Run to You" is tops on my list.Somehow though, the songs of the 40's really knew how to express love and romance, and really reach the heart. Basically there's just too many incredible love songs through our musical history to ever be able to target 10 as the best.....unless, of course, thats simply one persons opinion, and everyone is entitled to that right. Just don't try to speak like authorities for the rest of us..Thanks!

What about Stevie, Luther, or even MJ? It's even Black History Month now! You've ignored some deserving white artists, too.
