53. Karr, you are absolutely right "Haunted House" by Jumpin' Gene Simmons is one of the best Halloween songs ever. It may be old but remember "Monster Mash" which I like was origianally released in 1962 going to #1 on the charts. It was re-released in 1973 and again in 1990 amazingly charting in at #10 in 1990. If you've never heard it go to itunes store or other place of choice...search "Haunted House" by Jumpin' Gene Simmons. I do think "Werewolves of London" should've made the list. It's a classic this time of year.

78. Thanks goodness for Danny Elfman! I was surprised that Monster Mash wasn't #1 but, as the only really popular song that's actually ABOUT Hallowe'en, This is Hallowe'en from the Nightmare
Before Christmas soundtrack is definitely deserving. The rest are Hallowe'en songs in sort of the same way that any song about snow is intrinsically considered to be a Christmas song. ("Baby, it's cold outside" a Christmas song? Come on! But it gets played every year as one!)
The problem is that there AREN'T ten famous songs that are really ABOUT Hallowe'en. So "Monster Mash", "Ghostbusters" and "Thriller" become our national Hallowe'en songs by default. Hey, they're great songs. I just wish that real Hallowe'en music was more of an actual genre like Christmas music is. "Grim Grinning Ghosts", while not really a Hallowe'en song either is still an excellent choice under the circumstances. And I agree with others, where the heck IS Dead Man's Party? It's easily in the top 5 popularly accepted "Hallowe'en" hits.

79. #1 I love my TickleMe Plant http://tiny.cc/Ticklemeplant

80. I thought it would be neat to check out the "top 10 Halloween songs", well I was wrong, most of these I never heard on the radio(or even thought about buying).Thriller was neat as it was a 3D movie in Disney world. The others were ,with the exception of #6 were kinda lame. The order should have been reversed, after listening to them.

81. Confused. Their "2nd best" Halloween song was a serious number one hit for a significant period of time. Their "best" Halloween song peaked at freaking 98 and I have never even heard of it... hmm, OK, I guess...

82. Gah! See? So many commenters have gotten it right! Dead Man's Party, No One Lives Forever, or heck, almost any Oingo Boingo song. Halloween is just not complete without them :D
Plenty plenty more amazing groups and songs that should make the list (Bauhaus, Sioxie and the Banshees, Cruxshadows) but then again, that stuff never gets old :P
Posted at 9:08AM on Oct 30th 2009 by Wren
83. "I Want Candy" by Bow Wow Wow
Posted at 10:40AM on Oct 30th 2009 by Jim L
84. Of course Frankenstein by Edgar Winter Group should be on the list. No words just an intrumental. And I think Helloween is the group Kevin has posted earlier.

85. Tons of eerie classical pieces were forgotten. I have to agree with the person who mentioned Toccata and Fugue in D Minor. You also have to add to the list Funeral March of a Marionette (which most people better know as the Alfred Hitchcock theme) and Danse Macabre. And going to the world of television, don't forget the themes from The X-Files and The Twilight Zone and, for lighter fare, the themes from The Munsters and The Addams Family.
Posted at 12:42PM on Oct 30th 2009 by Martha Hankins
86. Definitely Dave Matthews "Halloween"; The Devils Line Dance and Tom Waites "What's he building in there"
Posted at 12:56PM on Oct 30th 2009 by Tish
87. Phish's "Story of the Ghost" always gets me in the Halloween spirit
Posted at 1:29PM on Oct 30th 2009 by dagnabbit
88. Everyone seems to forget the 50's great "Dinner with Drac." Very camp, but difinitely worth mentioning...
Posted at 2:08PM on Oct 30th 2009 by lindereee
89. The guy who said "Haunted House" by Jumpin' Gene Simmons got it right. John Fogerty covers the tune on his new Blue Ridge Rangers CD.
Posted at 6:23PM on Oct 30th 2009 by magold16
90. ANYONE OUT THERE EVER HEAR OF BAUHAUS? PETER MURPHY IS THEIR LEAD SINGER. "BELA LUGOSI'S DEAD" IS A GREAT SONG, THEY WERE ONE OF THE FIRST GOTH BANDS OUT THERE, AND ALMOST ANY OF THEIR SONGS SHOULD BE ON THE LIST. FOR PSYCHOBILLY FANS LISTEN TO DEADBOLT'S "SOME DAY I WILL KILL YOU" OR "GOIN TO WITCHATA". DANNY ELFMAN'S "MUSIC FOR A DARKENED THEATER" CAN BE LEFT TO PLAY ALL NIGHT, EVEN THE PEE WEE HERMAN SONGS ON IT CAN BE SCARY IF YOU THINK ABOUT BEING LOCKED IN A ROOM WITH HIM FOR ANY AMOUNT OF TIME.

91. Serial killer-like songs:
No More Tears by Ozzy Osbourne;
Possum Kingdon by The Toadies.
And to the list of classical music and/or movies, add the piece used in the original The Shining. I think it is Berlioz, Symphonie Fantastique.

92. Monster Mash is of the "cute and clever" sort of Halloween songs. And I've gotta say that I don't know too much about some of the other songs posted. (Oops.) But I'd like to thank the comments of #36 and #45. The Edgar Allen Poe thing is intriguing, and so are the Celtic balads. Will look into those. Now, with that being said, I'm going to put myself out on a limb here, because the song I'm going to suggest may very well exist, but kinda don't think so. I think one of the scariest Halloween songs is one that has never been written. And that would be: a tastefully written Theme song for the cult classic movie, "The Night of the Living Dead. It could not be comedic in the least, but just well done. And it would have to have a refrain of "They're coming to get you, Baahrbara!" I know how to write lyrics, but I know nothing about writing music. One of you talented souls out there get busy on this.

93. If you want a Doors song, how about End of the Night?
Posted at 11:44PM on Oct 30th 2009 by Darin
94. Agh, I hate when people think Metal automatically equals Halloween music.
When I think of Halloween music, I think I'll put a spell on you, Little Red Ridding Hood, I'm your Bogeyman, Profondo Rosso, No One Lives Forever, Werewolves in London, People Are Strange, Martian Hop, The Blob and so on.
Just because something is "dark" doesn't mean Halloween...

95. "The Black Death" from Eric Burdon & the Animals album "Winds of Change"
Posted at 6:43AM on Oct 31st 2009 by Marty
96. one that might not be thought of as a halloween song..but always did it for me is "The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot.
Posted at 9:36AM on Nov 1st 2009 by Terry
97. Some of these have been mentioned already but here are songs I think should have been considered:
Werewolves of London (Warren Zevon)
Bad Moon Rising (Creedence Clearwater Revival)
Mack The Knife (Bobby Darin)
People Are Strange (The Doors)
Bela Lugosi's Dead (Bauhaus)
Brain Damage (Pink Floyd)
Psycho Killer (Talking Heads)
Season of the Witch (Donovan)
Witchy Woman (The Eagles)
Somebody's Watching Me (Rockwell)
Twilight Zone (Golden Earring)
Veteran of the Psychic Wars (Blue Oyster Cult)
Face to Face (Siouxsie and the Banshees)
The Visitors (ABBA)
Rhiannon (Fleetwood Mac)
Mad World (Tears for Fears)
Hungry Like the Wolf (Duran Duran)
Evil Woman (ELO)
I'm Going Slightly Mad (Queen)
I Put a Spell on You (Screamin' Jay Hawkins)
She's Not There (The Zombies)
Bat Out of Hell (Meat Loaf)
Devil Inside (INXS)
All You Zombies (The Hooters)
Zombie (The Cranberries)
and, of course, there are the theme songs:
The X-Files
The Munsters
The Addams Family
Tales From the Darkside
Friday the 13th (the series)
and am I wrong to mention the soundtrack for the movie The Forbidden Zone? ;-)

98. How You Could Leave Off My 2 Favourite Halloween Songs, I Will Never Know ????? They Are; Season Of The Witch-By-DONOVAN, -And- Bella Lugosi's Dead-By- Peter Murphy & Bau Haus !!!!
Posted at 12:22PM on Oct 31st 2009 by H L C Van Layden
99. I've just been skimming the comments, but I don't recall anyone mentioning The Witch Queen of New Orleans by Redbone yet! Or Ghost Riders in the Sky, or Devil Woman by Cliff Richard.
Some more obscure songs worth a listen on Halloween are:
The Ghost of Tom Joad, Rage Against the Machine (yep, a metal cover of a Springsteen song)
I'm Your Boogie Man, White Zombie (yep, a metal cover of a KC and the Sunshine Band song)
The Big Chair, Tears for Fears (This was the B-side of Shout when it was released in 1985. It's mostly an instrumental, but contains dialogue from the TV-movie Sybil.)
