52. So nice to go down memory lane and remember some
of the great Country singers and all the great
songs. I think that country music is the soul of
our great country...

54. Patriotic Country music is OK but does not hold up to "God Bless America" written by Irving Berlin and unforgetably belted out by Kate Smith. I was a baby when she sang for war bond rallies -- but I am of the generation that appreciated the song and the singer of REAL patriotism.

55. They are all good, but, I have to agree who made up this list?
Anyway, what about "America" by Niel Diamond?
The Lyrics are right on target, and it has a good musical build and background! America the Beautiful, how could someone miss that?

61. OMG. asking someone to come up with the 10 best country songs is like asking someone to name their favorite 10 atoms in the universe.
So just to be cranky, where is:
Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys.
Hank Snow
Mearle Haggard
Tom T Hall
Conway Twittey
CT had more #1 songs than anyone in the history of recorded music, but what the Heck.
Ernest Tubbs
etc etc
Maybe somebody could do a top 500 country songs, but I don't know how you could rank them....

62. I Really Like The Song Sissy' By Allen Jackson Because I had A younger sister her name was helen but we always called her sissy because thats what my mother said to call her there were ten of us and i really can say no one ever called her helen not even aunts and uacles every one called her sissy, and she passed away unexpectely at the age of 46 in 2006 she had cancer for a month but she went so fast unexpectely. we all thought she was getting better,, so this song matches her to a t, even my dad said.

63. Your choice of "He Stopped Lovin'Her Today" and "Stand By Your Man" were probably real close to true standard. But, you left out "He'll Have To Go" by Jim Reeves. In an era where everyone copied the top song, no one ever tried to duplicate Reeves' version..."Crazy" (written by Willie Nelson) was also a good pick. But, you left out "Faded Love"(a Bob Wills tune) best done by Patsy and another rendition by Ray Price and Willie Nelson. Haggard and Bonnie Owens also had a great rendition of it. Alan Jackson's "Where Were You Wnen The World Stopped Turnin" is a great patriotic song and Lee Greenwoods "Proud To Be An American" ranks high on everybody's list.
You left out "Hello Darling" by Conway and if there was ever a better honky tonk song than "Lookin For Love," I haven't heard it. Problem is Johnny Lee isn't your household name that you want to make this list. "That's All That Matters To Me" by Mickey Gilley and also by Eddy Arnold is better than all but two on your list and if "El Paso" or "Devil Woman" can't make your list, you really don't know Country.
By the way, whether you like the "Okie From Muskogee" or not, no list is complete without the Hag.

64. I apologize for previously saying that "if 'El Paso'and'Devil Woman'can't make your list, you really don't know Country."... That's not a fair statement. Your choices were outstanding and I know that in your heart you think those are the best...but in reading the other blogs I can see how difficult it is to come to the top 10. And it is what you think are the top ten. And I respect that. So I want you to know I am not criticizing any of those that you picked. I just think there are others that should be considered. You didn't pick my favorite Hank Williams song-"I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" nor did you pick my favorite George Strait song "A Love Without End."
A perfect example is "Galveston" by Glen Campbell. Everything about that song made it one of the greatest songs of all time(in fact it was picked as the second greatest song of all time by the CMA). When it was recorded, everything about it was ahead of the rest of the field...what it was about and the blend of orchestra with a never before bass sound that only Haggard and Campbell had experimented with. And as big as "Galveston" was, I didn't think it was Glen's best song. He had a song called "A Lady Like You" that never got any airplay and if you here it, you would say "How'd we miss this one?"
"For The Good Times" by Ray Price should be on everyone's list. "Coat Of Many Colors" by Dolly and "Coal Miner's Daughter" (by Loretta) have to be up there somewhere...How about Reba's "When Whoever's In New England's Through With You?"
Where is "Sixteen Tons" by Ernie Ford?
"Make The World Go Away" by Eddie Arnold. The Oak Ridge Boys had "Thank God For Kids" and was there ever a better rendition of "Shenandoah" than the one The Four Guys did every night at the Grand Ole Oprey? Roy Acuff and Johnny Cash sat in with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and did "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" and Alabama's "Very Special Love" wasn't even played on the radio. The first Country Video I ever saw was by Hank Williams Jr "Queen Of My Heart" and I thought it was Hank's best work... it never got any radio time whatsoever.
Again, thanks for having the intestinal fortitude to say what your favorite top ten Country Songs were. There are so many, I'd hate to have to be stuck with just 10 and I certainly wouldn't put them in a ranking.
Congrats on your list...
