Marky Ramone Lists His Top 10 Songs

Marky Ramone

Marky Ramone -- drummer and only surviving member of the legendary band Ramones -- is today's guest blogger for AOL Radio. The drummer lists his 10 favorite songs, many in the classic rock genre and heavily based on drum rolls by leading drummers Keith Moon, Mitch Mitchell and Ringo Starr. Take a look at his list below, covering songs by The Ronettes, The Kinks, and The Music Machine, among others.

Ramones I Wanna Be Sedated10) Ramones: 'I Wanna Be Sedated'

Need I say more? The whole song is a big bubble gum punk/pop anthem!!

The Jimi Hendrix Experience Are You Experienced9) The Jimi Hendrix Experience: 'Hey Joe'

I got it months before its release in America as a single from England. A three piece band. Jimi from beginning to end was spectacular -- his vocals and guitar playing; but it was Mitch Mitchell's drumming that put it over the top. One of the best rock drumming songs ever.

Love Da Capo8) Love: '7 and 7 Is'

Continuous drum roll throughout the whole song; Arthur Lee's vocals and the vibrato on the guitar makes this song another rock classic. I particularly like the end when the tempo changes from 4/4 to 6/8 time signature. Really cool!!

The Music Machine Talk Talk7) The Music Machine: 'Talk Talk'

Great fuzz guitar; vocals kicked ass and so did the drummer. This is another song which to me had punk elements.

Jan & Dean Dead Man's Curve6) Jan & Dean: 'Dead Man's Curve'

A perfect car race song between a Corvette and a Jaguar XKE through the winding roads of L.A. The musicians are Phil Spector's Wrecking Crew backing up Jan and Dean's vocals. My favorite part is when he tells his doctor about the car crash.

The Kinks All Day and All of the Night5) The Kinks: 'All Day and All of the Night'

Dave Davies' guitar sound and Ray Davies' vocals made this song the beginning of heavy metal.

The Who My Generation 4) The Who: 'My Generation'

From beginning to end it's the perfect teenage angst song, thanks mainly to Keith Moon's drumming; and who can forget the ending? To me a true punk classic.

I Can't Get No Satisfaction The Rolling Stones3) The Rolling Stones: '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction'

When I heard the guitar, I thought it was a saxophone or a horn but was a guitar with a fuzztone. It was something I'd never heard before. The whole band kicks ass on it!! Especially Jagger's vocals.

Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica2) The Ronettes: 'Be My Baby'

The famous Phil Spector wall of sound at its best. Hal Blaine on drums sounds enormous and so does the whole song from beginning to end. Recorded in mono two track, a masterpiece.

The Beatles Second Album1) The Beatles: 'She Love You'

Faster, and more exciting than 'I Want to Hold Your Hand.' The harmonies, and of course Ringo's drumming, put this song at No. 1. A must for Beatles fans.
