Paul van Dyk Reveals His Favorite Records

Paul van Dyk

Grammy-nominated musician/DJ/producer Paul van Dyk is this week's guest blogger for AOL Radio. From New Order to the The Killers, Paul has remixed some of the most memorable tunes we love to dance to, paving the way for rising stars Filo & Peri and influencing others. Read a list of his favorite records below, and find out which album he never tires of and which one was a "milestone of [his] youth."

Marit Larsen If a Song Could Get Me You10) Marit Larsen: 'If a Song Could Get Me You'

The first time I heard this song was on the radio on my way back home from a gig. I got caught by Marit's innocent voice and longing lyrics...a very sweet, catchy little tune.

Lily Allen the Fear9) Lily Allen: 'The Fear'

Another album that I can't get tired of hearing is Lily Allen's 'It's Not Me, It's You.' A perfectly produced long player, the mixture of pop and electronic with witty and clever lyrics on top is genius!

The Killers Human8) The Killers: 'Human'

The Killers are one of the band highlights of 2009. 'Human' became such a huge hit, not only for rock fans but also for dance fans. I played it all through the year in my radio shows, in clubs, on festivals -- the crowd loves it and no matter where in the world I play, they sing along.

Kings of Leon Reverly7) Kings of Leon: 'Reverly'

It's certain that Kings of Leon is at the peak of their career as of the moment. A very unique voice and a entertaining album throughout -- 'Revelry' absolutely does it for me. It shows a much softer side of KOL but doesn't lack their classic rock sound qualities.

Editors Munich6) Editors: 'Munich'

I love this band, Tom Smith's voice is simply incredible. So is their combination of powerful melodies and meaningful lyrics. From all [of their] three albums, Munich is my favorite!

Alex Morph Purple Audio5) Alex M.O.R.P.H. feat. Ana Criado: 'Sunset Boulevard'

When it comes to electronic music, Alex is one of those artists who constantly delivers quality productions. I could play his tracks unheard. His album 'Purple Audio' is top notch and 'Sunset Boulevard' my absolute favorite. Whenever I hear this song I see a little girl strolling along the promenade of LA.

Giuseppe Ottaviani Go4) Giuseppe Ottaviani: 'No More Alone'

One of the most played tracks in my radio show 'VONYC Sessions' this year. Giuseppe is an outstanding talent. He studied classical piano and therefore has a distinctive feeling for melodies. You can hear it on his record 'GO!' and experience it during his live shows -- it's impressive!

Filo & Peri Ashley3) Filo & Peri feat. Aruna: 'Ashley'

I predict a great future for the newcomers from New York. The single 'Ashley' is one of these catchy, emotional but still driving dance ballads that my audience loves. On their album 'Nightplay' they found the perfect balance between massive club destroyers and soulful dance ballads. A must have.

New Order Blue Monday2) New Order: 'Blue Monday'

New Order have left their mark on me. Their album was one of my first ever, a milestone of my youth. Years ago I had the great honor to remix this track and now it's part of my own best of 'Volume.'

The Smiths Hand in Glove 1) The Smiths: 'Hand in Glove'

One of the most influential bands of the '80s -- at least to me. I grew up in East Berlin, secretly listened to the forbidden Western radio stations and tried to get my hands on smuggled mixtapes. The only way to hear one of my favorite bands at that time -- The Smiths!
