'A Song for a Son,' is the first track to be released on the Smashing Pumpkins forthcoming album, 'Teargarden by Kaleidyscope.' The tune -- with a more simplistic production -- is one of 44 tracks to be released.
According to Spinner, frontman Billy Corgan explains he wrote the song about his life without children, inadvertently tying in his relationship with his father. This makes sense when you think about the layout of the song, which begins (and ends) beautifully with a synth keyboard, guitar, and Corgan on vocals singing: "I am one of many, many more to come." The middle of the song has an entirely different feel: the bass and drums chime in, building to a climatic electric guitar solo. There's even a phantom-sounding organ.
The Pumpkins plan to share all the tracks for free on their website, to be later divvied and repackaged as 11 four-song EPs. Listen to the new single, here on AOL Radio's New Alternative First station.
