Welcome to my list of Top 10 Favorite Songs of all time. Growing up in the '70s and '80s with older siblings, I was introduced to a lot of different music through my brother and sister. As you can see, I have a wide range of musical tastes. Being a drummer, I love diverse rhythms and unique time signatures. As a pianist and songwriter, I appreciate a moving melody and a cool chord progression. Thanks for taking the time to review my picks.
One of the greatest songs from my youth, 'Rhiannon' has left an undelible mark in my musical memory bank. Mick Fleetwood's tom groove makes a great foundation for Lindsey Buckingham's guitar work and Stevie Nicks' vocals. The great verse melody and chorus harmonies make this truly one of my all-time favorites.

From the time I was a kid, I've always loved this song with its great piano and lap steel guitar. The driving beat just carries me down that road of life and puts me in a good place every time I hear it.
An incredible song that features Donald Fagen's sophisticated jazz chord progressions and a great sax solo to boot. I just recently attended the Steely Dan concert in which they played the entire 'Aja' album, including this classic tune. It was an awesome concert.
The live version of this song on 'Wide Awake in America' is extremely moving. Not to be outdone by Edge's signature guitar -- Larry Mullen Jr.'s tribal drum beat, Adam Clayton's simple yet infectious bass line, and Bono's melodies create an instant and memorable hook that captivates the listening audience.
I absolutely love the lyrics and cool progressions of this track. Also, the overall energy and angst of this song absolutely rocks. I remember seeing this tour back in 1984 with The Fixx as the opening band. Needless to say, it was a great concert.
Another great song from another favorite band of mine. I particularly love the anticipation in the build just before the piano solo section. The mounting tension it creates is awesome as the song bursts into a musical frenzy with a killer bass line.
This is definitely one of Elton's finest songs. Pure genius; with its emotional lyric and dynamic musical transitions, this is a must have in any serious listener's music collection. A true masterpiece.
An amazing song from an amazing album. You can't beat the timeless storytelling of Billy Joel. From the introductory restaurant scene (A bottle of white, a bottle of red) with accompanying piano and sax, to the Dixieland interlude and subsequent climactic story of Brenda and Eddie, this tune has it all and carries the listener full circle as we finally arrive back to that intimate Italian restaurant.
I remember hearing this song for the first time on 'American Top 40' hosted by Casey Kasem. I couldn't believe how cool the song was upon first listen and I instantly went out and bought the album and shared it with my next door neighbor. Yes, I said album, back in the days when you could buy vinyl or 8 track tape. Mark Knopfler's voice and interweaving guitar licks are what originally captivated me and I still love it just as much today as I did back then.
An epic song from my all time favorite band. Neil Peart's rhythmic changes and varying time signatures are remarkable and create an intricate backdrop for Geddy Lee's soaring vocals. The half step interval gives the song an intense edge and I just love how the song breaks down in the middle with the driving synth and drum fills taking back over and restarting the song.
