The Winter Solstice - the day of the year in which traditionally the Northern or Southern Hemisphere is furthest away from the Sun on the Earth's axis tilt - falls today on December 21, 2009 for those of us north of the equator. Many countries and religions celebrate the Winter Solstice through various customs. The indigenous people of Norway, Finland and Sweden, for example, celebrate the Beiwe Festival today in honor of Beiwe - the sun-goddess of fertility and sanity. We've put together a station of music to listen to today, and all throughout the holidays and coming months, to put you in that relaxing winter mood.
