'By the Sword' is Slash's lead single featuring Wolfmother's Andrew Stockdale, off his highly-anticipated eponymous debut solo album. Opening with light tapping percussion, Slash's heavy electric guitar-picking and Stockdale's Bob Dylan twang, the song evolves into Stockdale's blazing, 'Woman'-like vocals followed by heavier drums, as Slash delivers guitar hero-worthy solo runs and trills.
Stockdale and Slash debuted the song live at the guitarist's L.A. benefit for homeless kids last November, joined by Travis Barker on drums, Jane's Addiction's Chris Chaney on bass and and Dave Navarro dueling it out on guitar with the former Guns N' Roses guitarist. Slash admitted to Spinner: "'By the Sword' is a favorite of mine off the album. I really enjoyed meeting and working with Andrew Stockdale. It was a solid collaborative effort and his voice is fantastic." We think so too Slash.
The album -- set to release April 6 in the U.S. -- boasts other iconic collaborations, notably Iggy Pop, Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Grohl, Fergie, Sound Garden's Chris Cornell and Kid Rock. Tune into AOL Radio's New Rock First station to hear Slash's psychedelic track.
