'Nothing But the Whole Wide World' is Jakob Dylan's first single off his upcoming album 'Women and Country,' set to release April 6. Although this is Dylan's second solo album (first was the 2008 acoustic-driven and Rick Rubin-produced 'Seeing Things), it is his first solo album with producer T-Bone Burnett, who helmed the Wallflowers 1996 album 'Bringing Down the Horse.' Burnett -- who also just won an Academy Award alongside Ryan Bingham for 'Crazy Heart''s theme song 'The Weary Kind' -- will be driving Dylan's continued interest in introspective songwriting and acoustic sets.
But unlike 'Seeing Things,' 'Women and Country''s driving component is it's melodic harmonies, formulated by alt country and indie singers Neko Case and Kelly Hogan, who sing backup on eight tracks. We clearly get to see this in 'Nothing But the Whole Wide World,' which has the two singing backup in part of the first verse and the chorus, as well as harmonic "oooohs" in the bridge. This folk album could be a big acoustic/folk songwriting break for Dylan. After all, Burnett did produce the Alison Krauss/ Robert Plant collaboration 'Raising Sand.'
