Katy Perry -- 2010 New Album Preview

Katy PerryShedding the title of 'one-hit wonder' is one of the most difficult things any sensationally popular, young musician has to do, but that's exactly what Katy Perry is aiming to achieve with the release of her new 2010 album this summer. After the success of her 2008 breakthrough album, 'One of the Boys,' and the anthemic single 'I Kissed a Girl,' expectations are already flying high for Perry's next effort, which she began working on in October 2009.

Although fans were able to whet their appetites last November, when MTV released a special album of Perry's 'MTV Unplugged' performance, all eyes are now turned toward this summer, when the California raised singer is expected to drop her still-untitled record. MTV reports that Perry has enlisted artists and producers as diverse as Weezer's Rivers Cuomo, and longtime Rihanna collaborator Tricky Stewart. So far, there hasn't been any official or even semi-official tracklist released, but as Perry told MTV, she's found herself full of inspiration. "I'd been bottled up for about two years," she explained. "I haven't written on the road. I was focusing on the 'One of the Boys' record and making that visual and touring, so all of that stuff that I've kind gathered has just been spilling out."

While Perry listed Ace of Base and the Cardigans as among the groups who have influenced the "rollerskate" sound of her forthcoming album, fans shouldn't however, expect a radically different sound. As she told Rolling Stone, Perry thinks of her second studio album as a chance to prove "whether I'm meant to do this, or I got lucky." She went on to say that she doesn't want to "alienate the audience that I have at all," and won't try to stray too far from the peppy, pop-infused sound that she's made her name with so far.

"I think some people feel like they have had success with one thing and one idea and one record and they want to pull a 180 and try a totally different thing," she explains. "I definitely feel like that's the wrong move. Some people get full of themselves, and they think that anything they do is going to work or turn to gold or be the right move, and the reason why you're here is because of the people that like your music and the fans, so you always should keep an ear open to what they're saying".
