'Born Free' is M.I.A.'s first digital single off her upcoming untitled third studio album, expected to release sometime in June. The synthpunk song is an adrenaline pusher -- as most of M.I.A.'s songs are -- with the help of back beats sampled off Suicide's 1977 hit 'Ghost Rider.' The track's recently released video didn't last longer than two days on YouTube, as the site deemed it included too much "gratuitous violence." Directed by Romain Gavras, the video depicts a government force rounding up red-headed men and basically tortoring and executing them. Clearly M.I.A. is making a statement about how armed forces control people, and according to Spinner, features "some startling imagery that we don't suggest watching while eating."
