You can call Soulja Boy Tell 'Em lots of things, but one thing you can't call him, is 'unsuccessful.' With a host of chart-topping singles to his name already, it's no wonder that the southern rapper speaks so candidly when discussing how amazing his 2010 new album will be. The record, which will be Soulja's follow-up to 2008's 'iSouljaBoyTellEm,' was completed in January, but is slated to drop later this year. And it's already undergone major metamorphoses even before ever seeing the light of day. Originally titled 'The DeAndre Way,' Soulja Boy Tell 'Em suddenly decided to shorten the title, to the more succinct 'Dre.'
When speaking to MTV last May about the project, the rapper expressed his desire to work with A-listers like Jay-Z, Kanye West and Lil Wayne on his third studio album. "I want the best of the best on this album," Soulja says. "I don't want no bullsh--. I want, from start to finish, classic #1 records. I'm not playing." In a February post to his Twitter page, Soulja Boy further even suggested that teen heartthrob Justin Bieber would be appearing on the new album, as well.
So far, Kanye has at least made his way to the studio, and, according to Soulja Boy, he left impressed with the southern rapper's sound. "When I was in the studio, I played him a couple of joints, and then he just said, 'Damn, he's really starting to go hard,'" Soulja Boy told MTV in March. "And I was like, 'Yeah, you feel me?'...Out of all the artists to get the go-ahead or the co-sign from, it was Kanye."
So far, there hasn't been any news in regards to the track list, but in February, Soulja did give his fans a sneak glimpse of the song, '2 Milli.' As MTV reports, the futuristic teaser features just 30 seconds of the single, but Soulja says he's actually finished the majority of the album -- he's just waiting to perfect it. "My album is complete, but I record every day just to do it," he says. "I been had my single; I just leaked a lot of songs that people liked just as much as [a single. This] time, I'm going to do it right, so this time, when I drop the song, there's going to be a visual and it's going to be money." Although it's already taken more than a year to hit shelves, Soulja promises his fans, "Mark my words: This album will be a classic."
