Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers -- 2010 New Album Preview

Tom PettyFor someone who's been around as long as they have, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have demonstrated an uncanny ability to hang on to their mojo. Now, they're ready to release a 2010 new album to prove just how eternally cool a group they truly are.

The album, titled 'Mojo,' will be released on June 15, and, as the follow up to 2002's 'The Last DJ,' will mark the band's first album in eight years. This time around, the group has decided to take an old-school approach to the recording process. As Petty told Rolling Stone back in November, he and his bandmates decided to record the entire album live, without any fancy overdubs or high-tech wizardry.

As for the album's sound, Petty said, in the same interview, that "It's blues-based. Some of the tunes are longer, more jammy kind of music. A couple of tracks really sound like the Allman Brothers - not the songs but the atmosphere of the band." The band already streamed the single 'Good Enough' on their website back in February, and have since begun streaming 'First Flash of Freedom,' which you can hear here.

Last month, they released official cover art for the new album, as well as the track list. Until the new CD hits stores on June 15, Petty fans can at least hope to catch the band on one of their several live shows across North America this summer. The tour, as Spinner reports, gets underway this week in Raleigh.
