Katy Perry quickly became music's hottest rising star in 2008 with her breakthrough single 'I Kissed a Girl' off her major debut album, 'One of the Boys.' Now the singer-songwriter -- known for her flashy style, quirky personality and risque lyrics -- is back this summer with a new album yet to be titled. The first single off the new CD, titled 'California Gurls,' features a collaboration with hip-hop star Snoop Dogg.In an interview with 'Rolling Stone,' she referenced the successful Jay-Z / Alicia Keys collaboration, 'Empire State of Mind,' saying: "What about LA? What about California?" she asks. "It's been a minute since we had a California song and especially from a girl's perspective."
The upbeat pop tune will have people celebrating summer's arrival with such lyrics as, "California girls / We're unforgettable / Daisy dukes, bikinis on top / Sun kissed skin, so hot, will melt your popsicle." There's no doubt the song will have Katy Perry fans clamoring for more from the new album. To hear 'California Gurls', tune to Fresh 40 on AOL Radio.
