Akon -- 2010 New Album Preview

Akon's massively successful 2008 album 'Freedom' may still be fresh in fans' minds across the globe, but that hasn't stopped him from pushing forward with a brand new 2010 album. For his fourth studio effort, the Senegalese-American born musician has once again managed to put together an all-star lineup of artists to appear on the new album, including Lady Gaga and DJ-producers like David Guetta and DJ Chuckie.

Perhaps this star-studded lineup explains the album's grandiose title, 'Stadium.' As Akon told the AP, "We named it 'Stadium,' because it's one of those records. We're going to do straight stadium tours overseas with this record." Originally slated to drop within the first three months of 2010, 'Stadium' has since been pushed back, and is currently rumored to hit stores on September 21.

Akon has always had a tendency to take control of production when it comes to his own original studio work, and this time around has been no different. As he told Vibe last October, "I always produce the majority of my own albums. So this one won't be any different."

As for the sound of his new album, Akon attributes a lot of his inspiration to European dance music, a trend that he claims will soon be overtaking hip-hop and urban music on a broad scale. "You've got some straight hardcore hip-hop guys actually moving into the dance realm," Akon told the AP. "And that's shocking. When you've got someone like Dr. Dre about to do a dance record ... that's crazy." He later told the Miami Herald that the sound of the new album is "going to be big, I'm on a whole other level right now. My life is bright, and you'll hear it on the album."

So far, the artist has been pretty mum on the details, and hasn't yet released a full track list for 'Stadium.' But as HipHop-N-More reports, a David Guetta-produced track called 'Nosy Neighbor' leaked back in December, and is widely rumored to be the first single off the new album.
