Kris Allen's latest single, 'The Truth,' ironically enough, isn't really about the truth at all. In fact, it's about everything but the truth. Throughout the tortured ballad, the former 'American Idol' winner gives his fans a starkly introspective glimpse at a relationship so fragile, and so blatantly tenuous, yet so difficult to let go of. For the first few bars, Allen painfully describes what it feels like to be under a "looming avalanche" that he's fully aware of, yet somehow unwilling to acknowledge. As the song swells to a crescendo, though, the singer seems to unleash all the pain and anguish that his dying romance has built up within him, finally admitting that "honesty is honestly / the hardest thing for me now."The single, which was written by Train lead singer Pat Monahan, has also seen its fair share of controversy since its release. As Allen explained to Entertainment Weekly, the follow-up to his platinum single 'Live Like We're Dying' wasn't originally conceived as a duet, but his record label approached him about the prospect of including Monahan on the track. Allen ultimately agreed to include Monahan on the bridge of his single, leading some to question whether or not his labels, Jive and 19, pressured him into doing it--especially since the version that's on his self-titled album doesn't include Monahan. Allen, though, seems to be brushing all rumors aside. As he says, "It wasn't that type of song where you say, 'We need someone else on this.' Now that it's done, I hope it does really well, man. I really do."

1. Good review. Kris' natural talent for bringing out the emotion in a song is showcased in this achingly beautiful song about heartbreak and longing. It is sure to be a hit!
