Alanis Morissette has always been one of the most distinct, and fiercely independent voices in contemporary music. And nowhere is that more apparent than in her latest single, 'I Remain,' off of the upcoming 'Prince of Persia: Sands of Time' soundtrack. From the song's opening, however, it becomes instantly clear that this Alanis definitely isn't the Alanis your big sister once knew. After a stirring Middle Eastern overture, Morissette imbues the track with her silky smooth vocals, all while a halted drum beat pushes the song forward. As the singer seamlessly glides in and out of falsetto range, everything reaches a momentous crescendo, providing the appropriately exhilirating backdrop for what promises to be a thrilling blockbuster film.
Morissette's contribution to the 'Prince of Persia' soundtrack also marks her own reunion with co-writer Mike Elizondo, with whom she collaborated on the soundtrack for 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.' This time around, Morissette says her vibe with Elizondo was so organic, "the song wrote itself." Alanis fully admits her single owes everything to the cinematic narrative upon which it's based, as she bluntly says, "This story was the ultimate muse."
