'I Rep That West' is the debut single from Ice Cube's forthcoming album 'I Am the West,' which, as the titles might imply, is intended to be the hip-hop legend's return to true, unfiltered West Coast rap music. "For 7 or 8 years now the West Coast has been trying to do music that appeals to the South and Mid-West," Cube wrote recently on his official site. "We were all guilty of over reaching. No more. At least not from me. I do it how I feel it; not how I think it should be done."
Ice Cube seems to be making good on his promise so far, spitting out vintage boastful verses over an insistent piano-and-bass heavy beat, as the chorus restates his new mantra: "Doing my own thing / And if you got a problem with that / Then I need to go bang, bang / And I be everywhere on the map, but I rep that west."
The album, 'I Am the West,' will be in stores on July 13. You can hear the single 'I Rep That West' by tuning into AOL Radio's New Hip-Hop First station.
