'Doin' It Again' is one of many hit singles off the Roots' ninth studio album, 'How I Got Over,' in stores today, June 22. Featuring John Legend, 'Doin' It Again' is a revamped, hip-hop-intensified version of Legend's soulful track 'Again,' from his 2006 sophomore album 'Once Again.'
Keeping Legend's mid-tempo piano melody and poignant chorus, Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter adds witty ad-lib verses, proving that his MC skills still, in fact, rise to the occasion: "Uh, remix, rising up out of the flames like a Phoenix / Straining to carry the weight of my brain like a genius / Knowing I'm sowing seeds let's see whose thumb is the greenest."
This song isn't the only John Legend-featured track. Percussion-driven 'The Fire' also appears on the album, immediately following 'Doin' It Again.'
'How I Got Over' was produced by the group -- mainly Black Thought and Questlove -- and boasts other singles, notably the title track and 'Dear God 2.0.' To hear 'Doin' It Again,' tune into AOL Radio's New Hip-Hop First station.
