Today on Linkin Park's site, Mike Shinoda posted news of a new album, titled 'A Thousand Suns,' which is expected to hit stores Sept. 14. But don't worry, fans will get their first taste of the new album with the band's upcoming single, 'The Catalyst,' out Aug. 2. It's surprising the band was able to get in some studio time considering they've been busy touring since 2007's 'Minutes to Midnight.' Linkin Park also announced they're inviting their fans to play on it! Paired up with MySpace and MixParade for the contest, fittingly called 'Linkin Park, Featuring You,' the band -- as of tomorrow, July 9 -- will provide some audio from their first and upcoming single 'The Catalyst,' and fans get the opportunity to remix, write over, or mute parts and add their own. The community will vote on innovative portions fans submit, and the band will pick the lucky winner.
This winner will either have their remix included in the album, or better yet, be invited into the studio to record on one of their songs. For more contest details, click here.

1. Hiatus? What hiatus? LP released Minutes to Midnight in May 2007, then toured for a year and a half until August 2008. They then went back into the studio. In the midst of their studio work, they recorded and released "New Divide" onto the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen soundtrack in May 2009. They then went on another small tour to gather more inspiration for their album, this lasted until August 2009. They returned to the studio, where they have remained ever since. Releasing a new album in September is just awesome. I'm sorry, but last I thought, hiatus meant being pretty much inactive.
