Hertz Rental Car 'Journey On' Commercial -- What's the Song?

Colin Hay Going SomewhereHey, who can it be now, performing the song 'Waiting for My Real Life to Begin' in the new Hertz rental car commercial? Why, it's former Men at Work frontman Colin Hay! He comes from a land down under, in case you forgot...

Hay has had a string of critically acclaimed solo records since leaving Men at Work back in 1985, often working in a more traditional singer-songwriter setting.

His aching voice and dynamic solo acoustic guitar sets the perfect tone for the ad's tale of a young man about to pop the big question: "Any minute now / My ship is coming in / I keep checking the horizon / And I'll stand on the bow / And feel the waves come crashing."

The song originally appeared on Hay's 1994 album 'Topanga,' but the acoustic version from this commercial is from 2001's 'Going Somewhere.' The song was featured repeatedly on the hit medical comedy 'Scrubs,' as well as episodes of 'Dawson's Creek,' 'The Hills' and several other television shows.

Colin is currently touring across the US in support of his most recent album, 2009's 'American Sunshine.' Be sure to listen to 'Waiting for My Real Life to Begin' in the commercial below!
