15. Ten Favorite Prince Songs by David A. Mitchell
It’s hard to come up with just ten, and I didn’t want to put them in a particular order – but I pretended as if I were hosting a radio show and I was forced to count down my 10 faves. With that said, this is what I came up with…
10 Get Off (Diamonds & Pearls) - I didn’t think much of this record when I first heard it, but Prince made me love it after his butt-displaying and simulating orgy performance at the MTV Awards. I saw him perform it again at the Jack the Rapper Conference, and then I found his multiple remixes of the song unavoidable. “Let me show you baby I’m a talented boy!”
9 Love to the Nines (the Symbol album)- this is a hidden gem from his symbol album – the album that features “Sexy MF” and “Seven.” I thought it should’ve been the third single, with those passionate strings, and his amazing falsetto – go re-discover this song!!
8 Sexy Dancer (Prince)– It’s smooth, funky and sexy – and perfect for the dancefloor, from his sophomore album that I never owned interestingly enough – the piano breakdown is enough to get me going….
7 Sexuality (Controversy) – My personal freedom march – I was 16 when this record came out, and it came to define my youth and sexual exploration
6 Private Joy (Controversy)- Yes, I’ve leaned towards the more friskier side of Prince’s music- I was a teen when many of these classics came out and they felt so forbidden – talk about your emotional connection
5 I Hate You (Emancipation) – A delicious big ballad with its powerful introduction along with some contradictory lyrics – “It’s so sad that I hate you, ‘cause you’re all that’s ever on my mind”
4 Girls & Boys – I freakin’ love this song from the “Under the Cherry Moon” album; an infectious, simple and sexy mid-tempo groove, talking about sex….Again??
3 Erotic City – another one of those rush to the floor R&B songs with its risqué lyrics- damn I loved this record and so did radio. We all knew he was saying the real F word in the chorus – did Prince get the last laugh? This song is still in recurrent 26 years later….
2 Housequake – I remember dancing at the club to this record to the irresistible drum tracks; It was the calling card to the dancefloor- it still is one of my all-time favorite party jams –I was going to make this my number one, but didn’t… bullshit!
1 When Doves Cry – I almost didn’t pick this song to even be in my countdown, but I had to put myself back in the mindset of what life was like for me back in 1984. I was having a blast, and this song was the soundtrack to my partying days. It was and still is an amazing record, and unlike anything we ever heard before. I knew it would be number one for weeks!!!

17. I absolutely agree. The very best of Prince.

18. This list is all wrong, and mixed up. Why is Purple Rain 10? Where are Darling Nikki, Diamonds and Pearls, Get Off? Wow, Honestly this is an insult because all of Princes songs are the Best. Just list all released songs and go from there.

Listen to Awesome '80s Radio

1. 10 other awesome Prince songs I'd like to mention on my own: 'Dirty Mind,' 'Mountains,' 'The Future,' 'P Control,' '$,' 'The Rainbow Children,' 'Turn Me Loose,' which he only played on TV one time, 'Alphabet Street,' 'I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man,' and 'Beginning Endlessly' from the new one, which I've listened to 27 times in the last three days. Someday I'm gonna convince them to let me write a top 100 Prince songs list.
