Kenny Chesney's new song, 'The Boys of Fall,' is a tribute to his high school memories as wide receiver of Gibbs High's football team in Luttrell, Tenn. Off his upcoming album, 'Hemingway's Whiskey,' the ballad -- with a looping guitar melody connecting the chorus with the verses -- coincides with his documentary film of the same name, about the life lessons kids learn when playing high school football. "Anyone who knows me knows how much I look to football," Chesney tells Sioux Falls radio station KIKN about why he made the documentary. "The lessons learned, the experiences, the feelings as a map for living life, having a music career, being the kind of man I want to be."
And it's clear his love for the American sport is genuine, as his lyrics stress teamwork and helping others: "I got your number, I got you back, when your back's against the wall / You mess with one man, you got us all / The boys of fall."
'Hemingway's Whiskey' hits stores Sept. 28. A release date for his documentary has yet to be announced. To hear the new single, 'The Boys of Fall,' tune in to AOL Radio's New Country First station.
