The recent Travelers Insurance TV spot, set at a busy desert watering hole, features the song 'Summer's Gone' by Scottish indie-pop band Aberfeldy. The track can be found on their 2004 album 'Young Forever.' The commercial portrays a message of safety by showing lions, tigers and alligators all co-existing peacefully with animals they'd normally use as lunch. The song's tinkling bells and clattering drums add a home-spun feel to the lyrics' simple message: "Well we get along / Yeah we really do / And there's nothing wrong / With what I feel for you."
Part of the reason the song sounds so pure and direct is that it was recorded with the band all performing together in a single room, in front of just one microphone. Producer Jim Sutherland explained: "We started multitracking the songs, but it didn't really capture what was special about [frontman] Riley."
Aberfeldy's third album, 'Somewhere to Jump From,' will be released on Aug. 23. Check out Travelers' commercial below:
