Christopher Nolan's 'Inception,' starring Leonardo DiCaprio, is one of the most hotly anticipated movies hitting theaters this summer. You may have to wait until tomorrow to see the film for yourself, but you can start preparing now, with a brand new 'Inception' soundtrack that's just been released. The soundtrack -- released on July 13 -- features 12 compositions from famed German composer Hans Zimmer, whose previous work has appeared in blockbuster films like 'Gladiator,' 'The Da Vinci Code,' and Nolan's biggest film to date, 'The Dark Knight.' As you'd expect from any thriller movie score, Zimmer's pieces featured on the 'Inception' soundtrack are packed with complex layers of sound, interweaving to create entirely new, dream-like spaces.
What sets the soundtrack apart from most others, though, is the way Zimmer manages to infuse electronic, synthetic energy into comparatively traditional aural settings -- thanks, in large part, to guitarist Johnny Marr, of The Smiths. "It's a very electronic score. There is orchestra, but the electronics share an equal spotlight," Zimmer explained to Screen Rant. "Besides Johnny and the orchestra, everything else stays virtual throughout the mix."
