Avenged Sevenfold, 'Buried Alive' -- New Song

'Buried Alive' is a slow-building, epic new track from Avenged Sevenfold's new album 'Nightmare.' It is the third song to be released prior to the album's July 27th release, following 'Nightmare' and 'Welcome to the Family.'

The band has repeatedly cited Metallica as an inspiration for their own music, as shown in 'Buried Alive.' As the song progresses from a gently-plucked intro to a tension-releasing thrash metal ending, it demonstrates a clear relationship to their hero's songs like 'One' and 'Fade to Black.' And like these Metallica tunes, 'Buried Alive''s lyrics print a rather grim and literal tale -- specifically of a premature burial: "I can't live in here for another day / Darkness has kept the light concealed / Hold onto faith as I dig another grave / Real as ever / It seems I've been buried alive."

Lead singer Matt Sanders tells Billboard the band referred to their basic metal sound for their fifth studio album: "The last record was more eclectic, and for this one we went back to our metal roots." It is also their darkest album lyrically, which makes sense considering it's the first since the 2009 drug overdose loss of founding drummer James 'The Rev' Sullivan.

Avenged Sevenfold's will be on tour throughout the summer as part of the Rockstar Uproar Festival. You can check out 'Buried Alive' and other great new songs from 'Nightmare' on AOL Radio's New Rock First station.
