Rap superstar Eminem sold over 187,000 copies of 'Recovery,' to hang onto the top spot on the Billboard 200 album chart for a fifth straight week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. In sports terms, you could say he just got his fifth championship ring, an amazing accomplishment.
Much of the credit for the extended success of 'Recovery' can be traced to his current hit collaboration with Rihanna, 'I Love the Way You Lie,' which has been the most downloaded song on the internet for the past five weeks.
The competition is getting tougher for Eminem every week. This time around he narrowly holds off fellow rapper Rick Ross, whose new album 'Teflon Don' hits No. 2 with 158,000 records sold. That means Ross reached the same total his 2009 album 'Deeper Than Rap' notched, an impressive feat given today's declining sales.
Breaking up the boys club a bit, Sheryl Crow notches 55,000 sales and debuts at No. 3 with her new album '100 Miles From Memphis,' which as you might guess, finds the veteran songwriter moving away from pop-rock into a soul-influenced sound.
Two titles aimed at children of varying ages round out the new entries on this week's chart. The latest in a long line of child-sung versions of popular hits, 'Kidz Bop 18,' starts at No. 5 with 43,000 units moved, and for the slightly older set, the Jonas Brothers' 'Jonas L.A.' soundtrack hits No. 7 with sales of 32,000.
That leaves just five more spots for returning titles in the Top 10. Drake helps hip-hop rule three of the top four spots on the countdown by sliding just one spot to No. 4 with a total of 47,000 for his debut album 'Thank Me Later,' and Justin Bieber (who else?) keeps swimming at No. 6 with 'My World 2.0' moving 39,000 albums.
In addition to all the new entries, last week's Top 10 were attacked from below, too, with three titles re-entering this week's chart after varying absences. Leading off we have the 'Now 34' compilation with 27,000 sold at spot No. 8, then Lady Antebellum returning at No. 9 with 'Need You Now' selling 25,000, and last, but better not call her least, Lady Gaga's 'The Fame' moves 24,000 records to reach No. 10.' moves 24,000 records to reach No. 10.
