Like all of Swift's songs, 'Mine' is capturing everything that the singer experiences, especially when it comes to love. "Every really direct example of love that I've had in front of me has ended in goodbye and ended in breakups," Swift explains to MTV News. "So I think I've developed this pattern of running away when it comes time to fall in love and stay in a relationship. The song is sort of about finding the exception to that and finding someone who would make you believe in love and realize that it could work out, because I'm never, ever going to go past hoping that love works out."
And hopeful she is. Over pop-influenced, acoustic strumming, she sings about getting past the late-night fights, money issues, and other relationship concerns just by referring back to that first time they were together: "Do you remember we were sitting there about the water / You put your arm around me for the first time / You made a rebel of a careless man's careful daughter / You are the best thing that's ever been mine."
And in the song's upcoming music video, Swift is dressed as a bride, "marrying" British actor Toby Hemingway, who will appear in Darren Aronofsky's upcoming flick 'Black Swan.'
