It looks like Beck took just long enough of a break from re-recording entire albums by Yanni and INXS to compose an original new song, 'Ramona,' for the soundtrack to the movie 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.'
Actually, he wrote several songs for the film, but he only takes the mic himself for 'Ramona,' a lovely, pastoral ballad which sounds like something from his string-laden, critically acclaimed 2002 break-up album 'Sea Change.'
Gentle acoustic guitars and lush strings dominate the mood musically as Beck reveals deep feelings for the song's titular heroine: "There's nothing left to hide / You can see it in my eyes / Oh I've tried to be who I thought you wanted / And if it's all a lie / The truth's not far behind / We could try to live right for the moment / Ramona."
Most of the songs Beck wrote for the movie are performed by "Sex Bob-Omb," the fictional band featuring the film's hero, Scott Pilgrim, on bass. In the film, Pilgrim is forced to endure a series of video-game related challenges in order to win the love of, you guessed it, Ramona.
'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World' is theaters now, and a deluxe edition of the soundtrack, featuring Beck's versions of many of the "Sex Bob-Omb' songs, is due in stores Sept. 7. You can listen to 'Ramona' now on AOL Radio's New Alternative First station.
