R&B singer Elisabeth Withers returns from her star-making turn in Broadway's 'The Color Purple' with 'No Regrets,' the first single from her upcoming album of the same name.
The song's supple mid-tempo beat is lightly adorned with keyboards and guitar, leaving plenty of room for Elisabeth's powerful voice, that builds from a somewhat reserved introduction to a passionate explosion.
You'd think, with a voice like hers, that Withers wouldn't have to deal with much self-doubt, but the lyrics tell another story: "Cause my body's grown but my mind is stressed / I say a prayer and jump the fence / I've got to find my confidence / No looking back / No regrets."
Elisabeth was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance as Shug Avery in the Oprah-WInfrey backed Broadway adaptation of 'The Color Purple.' The production received rave reviews and ran to packed houses for over three years.
'No Regrets,' the album, will be available Sept. 14. You may not be able to forgive yourself if you don't check out 'No Regrets,' the single, over on AOL Radio's New R&B First station.
