Accompanied by an infectious looping guitar melody and choppy, uplifting piano chords, Clapton sings -- with the help of back-up soul singers -- about running back to his love after admitting, "I should've known better / I should've hung around." The track, which includes an extended outro, bears similarities to his rendition of 'Rollin' and Tumblin'' featured on his 10× Multi-Platinum album, 1992's 'Unplugged.'
'Clapton,' his first album in five years, is co-produced by guitarist and collaborator Doyle Bramhall II, and features a cast of Clapton's elite musicians, such as legendary JJ Cale, drummer Jim Keltner, bassist Willie Weeks and keyboardist Walt Richmond. The effort also includes collaborations with friends Steve Winwood, Wynton Marsalis, Sheryl Crow, Allen Toussaint and Derek Trucks.
"This album wasn't what it was intended to be at all," Clapton says about the album's sound, which covers relatively unknown country blues to brand-new originals. "It's actually better than it was meant to be because, in a way, I just let it happen. It's an eclectic collection of songs that weren't really on the map-and I like it so much because if it's a surprise to the fans, that's only because it's a surprise to me, as well."
