The track starts off with a short verse from Jay-Z, as he begins rapping about living in the "31st century" and name-dropping New York journalist Norman Mailer. By the time Kanye comes in, he propels the song to a new stature, adding two verses while hyping up the listener, "Now when I walk in everybody do the power clap / Clap, clap, clap," and adding "I'm on my Van Gough / I don't hear s---."
When we get to about 3:20, the beat shifts fittingly to Snap!'s 1990 hip house jam 'The Power,' featuring Penny Ford's memorable vocals and West's accelerated metaphors of power.
Before releasing the remix, West posted a photo from the studio that featured him with Beatz, Mos Def, and power connoisseur LA Lakers legend Kobe Bryant. "Kobe helped me finish my #POWER remix verse ... Just building on the concept of #POWE... and Mos helped me find the 'old me' lyrically," he tweeted early Sunday morning.
And it seems like West is on a roll, utilizing all this power and energy to good use: "I might have to put out 5 albums this year ... My spirit is full ... My heart is open ... People want new music ... I can't hold it back," he adds.
