The song is expected to be released on his forthcoming, but so far officially untitled and unscheduled, new album.
'So Westcoast' is a charmingly retro-sounding track, with production courtesy of the always excellent DJ Quik. As the keyboard bass and hand-clapping mix with outer-space synth melodies, Cannon raps in a confident, sometimes intentionally nasal delivery about his home state:
"It must be Earth Day, if you know what I mean / Everybody on the West Coast is going green / Cause when we in the bay we get dummy to this / When we in L.A. we get money to this / When we in Hollywood we act funny to this / I'm so West Coast."
If Cannon does indeed deliver a new album this year, it will be his first since his 2003 self-titled debut. In 2006 he released a pair of singles from a planned album called 'Stages,' which was never finished due to his busy movie shooting schedule.
Of course, it's another delivery, from Nick's wife Mariah Carey, that's got all the gossip sites talking lately. Reportedly she is pregnant with the couple's first child. So, if it's true, wish them well while you're bobbing your head to 'So West Coast' on AOL Radio's New Hip-Hop First station.
