Underwood's song, however, doesn't delve into the messiness of angst-ridden teenage rebellion or parental defiance. Instead, the country star focuses on the difficulties of assuring her mother that the life path she's chosen is the right one -- and that the man she's chosen to walk it with is the perfect companion.
Musically, 'Mama's Song' is relatively simplistic, with dashes of symphonic embellishment serving as the only distraction to the former 'American Idol' winner's soaring voice. It's precisely this simplicity that allows her story to resonate even more deeply within the listener.
As the song evolves, Underwood's conviction strengthens, as she continuously reassures her mother that "giving me away is not goodbye," that the man she loves "makes promises he keeps," and that he's "never gonna leave." Ultimately, the singer has only one request for her mother: "Don't you worry about me." And, after hearing Underwood's eloquent explanation, it'd be hard for anyone to doubt her.
'Mama's Song' is featured on Carrie Underwood's third studio album, 'Play On,' which was released last November. To hear Underwood's new song, as well as the rest of today's hottest country music, tune in to the New Country First station on AOL Radio.
