Katy Perry Fulfills a 'Teenage Dream' by Topping the Billboard 200

Pop diva Katy Perry racks up her first-ever week atop the Billboard 200 album chart by selling 192,000 of her new album 'Teenage Dream,' according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Much of the credit for the success of the album can be attributed to Katie's two big hit singles, 'California Gurls' and 'Teenage Dream,' which together ruled radio airwaves much of this summer.

This is very good news for Perry, who recently told Rolling Stone magazine that "The second record is really important to me because I think it shows whether I'm meant to do this, or [if] I got lucky." (Technically, this is her third album; in 2001 she released a gospel album under her given name, Katy Hudson.)

Perry leads a whopping six new entries onto the Top 10 this week. First up, at No. 2 with 117,000 sales, we find former 'American Idol' champion and Broadway star Fantasia, who ends a four-year absence from the record bins with her third album, 'Back to Me.'

Not even six months after topping the charts with his recent semi-autobiographical album 'Raymond v. Raymond,' Usher storms back to No. 4, thanks to the 46,000 fans who were eager to find out how the story ends on 'Versus,' an extended-play sized companion piece featuring new songs and two re-recorded 'Raymond' tracks.

A pair of country acts also made impressive debuts this week; Little Big Town's fourth studio album 'The Reason Why' hits No. 5 with a tally of 42,000, and the Randy Rogers Band enjoy their best one-week sales total ever with 29,000 for 'Burning the Day,' good enough for the No. 8 spot.

Our last new entry, The Devil Wears Prada, a metal band from Ohio who quite perversely took their name from the popular novel about one woman's battle for recognition in the fashion industry, reaches No. 10 with their EP 'Zombie,' sending 25,000 fans to stores. Naturally, they walked there slowly, muttering "braiiinnnsss..."

This barrage of new entries obviously sent most of last week's chart occupants out onto the streets, then threw their clothes out the window. However, a few managed to hang onto their dignity and their chart homes. Of course, Eminem still made a strong showing, with 'Recovery' moving 98,000 more units and slipping to No. 3.

R&B singer Kem slides four spots to No. 6 with 30,00 people sharing his 'Intimacy,' just ahead of the unstoppable one, yes, Justin Bieber, you know the drill by now: 'My World 2.0,' No. 7, 28,710 sales. That puts him justthismuch ahead of our raspy friend Ray LaMontagne, who lands at No. 9 on the strength of 27,908 copies sold for 'God Willin' and the Creek Don't Rise.'
