Over strobing, reggae-infused backbeats and hints of big band accompaniment, Rexha sings in full-bodied vibrato: "and we're dancing / In a club called Heaven." The track also features a verse by Philly-based hip-hop duo Chiddy Bang.
The concept of Black Cards started when Wentz connected with songwriter-producer Sam Hollander (Gym Class Heroes, Katy Perry). "At the time I was really getting into reggae and he was on a British, Lily Allen kind of kick," Wentz tells Rolling Stone. "We talked about combining the sounds."
Bebe Rexha didn't come into the picture until Wentz and Hollander were laying down tracks in the studio, and they serendipitously heard her recording next door. Wentz adds, "I just heard this voice blasting and I said, 'Why are we so focused on finding a quirky, British girl?'"
Wentz also pens all the group's lyrics, as he did for FOB. A release date for their debut album has yet to be set, but a tour is expected to follow. To hear 'Club Called Heaven,' head over to AOL Radio's New Pop First station.
