Ryan Lewis provides the catchy, hip-hop beat, while Macklemore parodies the modern rap industry. His clever rhymes are about shopping for clothes at thrift shops, as opposed to materialistic lyrics that are rapped about by other artists. The comic single about discount shopping features a hilarious music video with Macklemore dancing along to his modest lifestyle. The video already has over 25 million hits on Youtube as Macklemore's popularity continues to increase. Despite being released independently, the single hit the top 40 and helped 'The Heist' reach #2 on the Billboard 200. With "only twenty dollars in my pocket" Macklemore raps about looking awesome, despite all the bargain clothing he's wearing. "I'ma take your grandpa's style, no for real, ask your grandp, -can I have his hand-me downs?"
'The Heist' also reached the top spot on iTunes within hours of its October release, despite no mainstream promotion. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis began touring in support of the album in the fall. Take a listen to 'Thrift Shop' right now on AOL Radio's New Pop First.
