Best Guitar Humidifier For Winter

A guitar humidifier is a product that I wasn’t even aware of for a very long time, and I have been a guitarist for over 15 years now. I never really cared much about my guitar in the starting years; in a sense, I never took into consideration the damage your guitar takes from the every-day environment it is stored in.

Best Guitar Humidifier

No matter how expensive or well-built a guitar is, all of them are potentially at risk. Do you need a guitar humidifier? Well, for the most part, yes. Unless and until you live in a place where there is a balanced amount of humidity, the answer is yes. Getting yourself a guitar humidifier will increase its lifespan by helping it fight the damage that dryness can cause.

A lack of humidity is one of the major and most common causes of the guitar’s body getting damaged, so by no means is this a “not so important” product once you read up about it. So, now that I have given you a brief intro, here are the best guitar humidifier that you can get:

10 BEST GUITAR HUMIDIFIER REVIEW

1. D'ADDARIO HUMIDIPAK - BEST AUTOMATIC GUITAR HUMIDIFIER

D'ADDARIO - BEST GUITAR HUMIDIFIER

PRODUCT DETAILS

  • Corded electric power source
  • 1.28 Ounces weight
  • Two-way humidity control system
  • Maintains constant 45% RH
  • Maintenance-free design

If you are a guitarist, you must have at least once heard about the company called D’Addario. For the most part, they are known for manufacturing affordable yet quality guitar strings. Like most companies, though, they make more than just one product; for example, this humidifier is one of the best guitar humidifier that I have tried out.

If you live in a place where the temperature fluctuates and would like to increase the life of your guitar, getting one of these is going to be a smart decision. The Humidipak Automatic features the first two-way humidity control system that maintains a constant level of humidity, between 45% to 50%.

D’Addario offers not one but two humidifying pouches for which they get a thumbs up. Most companies simply offer one pouch for the soundhole, whereas D’Addario offers pouches for both the soundhole and headstock. In order to best maintain your guitar, you cannot neglect the headstock.

The Humidipak is Automatic; as you must have read in the title, it can automatically control the humidity levels without you having to manually adjust it based on seasonal changes, geographic locations, temperature, and other factors.

The automatic factor is a big-up as it totally takes away from the hassle that can be using a refillable guitar humidifier and maintains the proper humidity level of your instrument. It is also designed in such a way that it is meant to be used inside your guitar case and is to be stored there when not in use.

Pros

  • Creates no mess, very easy to use
  • Priced at a very reasonable rate
  • Absorbs and releases water
  • It fits on headstock and soundhole.
  • Will work on ukeleles as well

Cons

  • Have to replace the packs often.

2. O OASIS (OH-1) - BEST ACOUSTIC GUITAR HUMIDIFIER

PRODUCT DETAILS

  • Made in USA
  • Weight: 1.23 ounces
  • 3.5/8” depth
  • Safe and effective design
  • Suspension: Held By Strings

The Oasis OH-1 is one of the highest-rated guitar humidifiers out there, a sure-shot candidate that deserves a spot on a list that includes the best guitar humidifier. The OH-1 is a tad bit different from other humidifiers in terms of how it is working. Essentially, of course, it achieves the same goal.

However, instead of a pouch of a sponge, it looks more like a syringe. You insert this syringe into the soundhole of your guitar’s soundhole. It has a sleek and slim design to fit in the soundhole of anything from classical guitars to ukeleles. It can hang from between the D (4th) and G (3rd) string without ever touching the guitar body. It comes with a special cloth that prevents any excessive leakage.

This syringe goes deep into the soundhole, gets your mind out of the gutter, equally spreads moisture everywhere. Instead of water, it uses a special type of gel for humidification. There are crystals inside that take water and transform it into this gel. Another major advantage of this syringe-like design is that it has an indicator that lets you determine when it is time to refill: smart thinking there, Oasis.

Pros

  • Two anti-leaking measures
  • Very easy to use and works perfectly
  • Compatible with most guitars
  • Fits inside the guitar perfectly when in the case.
  • Refill meter and easy refills

Cons

  • It cannot fit in a tight case.

3. DAMPIT GUITAR HUMIDIFIER SUPER

PRODUCT DETAILS

  • Meant for larger guitars
  • Weighs 1.6 ounces
  • 11 Inches in size

The performance of your guitar is massively impacted by a lack of moisture. The sound will suffer as the wood dries up and you start to notice cracks. What better way to keep your guitar breathing but by the original Dampit guitar humidifier super. Dampit has been helping wooden instruments “stay in shape” since 1966, over 40 years now!

Naturally so, with a company with such a deep heritage and history, I was expecting to have a ton of good things to say about it. First off, the snorkel-type design looks hilarious to me. It is very purposeful, but when you insert it in the soundhole, it looks like your guitar is breathing through it and something about it just makes me chuckle. With that said, the pipe is around 11 inches, so it is perfect for dreadnoughts.

That is a theme here, the guitar humidifiers are accessories that are designed to be used on larger guitars. Simply place it inside the soundhole, and the Dampit guitar humidifier will slowly release moisture evenly throughout your guitar. There is an indicator that helps you check the level of humidity so you can maintain the ideal amount of humidity.

Pros

  • Dampit’s a trusted brand name.
  • Perfect for larger guitars like dreadnoughts
  • Easy to use and effective

Cons

  • Expected better quality from Dampit

4. D'ADDARIO - BEST CHEAP GUITAR HUMIDIFIER

D'ADDARIOO - BEST GUITAR HUMIDIFIER

PRODUCT DETAILS

  • Body Material: Alder
  • Weighs 0.32 ounces
  • Sponge humidifier
  • Exclusive non-drip design

D’Addario makes another appearance on this list and, that too when the previous entry was their very own humidifier kit. This time, instead of a special nylon pouch humidifier, we have a traditional one. That isn’t a downgrade rather just a different way of performing the same task. On top of that, the acoustic guitar humidifier by D’Addario here is a much cheaper option when compared to the kit.

This guitar humidifier boasts a typical sponge design that most humidifiers have with a drip-free design. It is super easy to use and doesn’t create a mess whilst doing it, thanks to the non-drip feature. It merely hangs down the soundhole of your guitar, slowly but surely releasing moisture.

A good sum of it is retained, which is great as you do not need to keep on refilling it. However, that is not a given, depending upon the levels of humidity in your region. The D’Addario acoustic guitar humidifier is one of the best guitar humidifier that I have tested.

D’Addario is well-reputed for offering fantastic quality products at a very affordable price, and this humidifier is no different. It goes through an intense quality control test, and only after passing it makes it on the shelves. I really liked this product as it never comes in contact with your guitar, creates no mess, and is reliable. I definitely recommended it!

Pros

  • No clips nor attachments, no body damage
  • Easy to use, easy to refill
  • Long-lasting and multiple uses
  • Cheap yet effective
  • Works for ukeleles as well

Cons

  • Some users reported slight leaks in sponge.

5. MUSLADY 3-IN-1 ACOUSTIC GUITAR SOUND HOLE COVER HUMIDIFIER

MUSLADY - BEST GUITAR HUMIDIFIER

PRODUCT DETAILS

  • Soundhole cover plus guitar humidifier
  • Designed for Acoustic Guitar with 101-103mm soundhole
  • Material: Plastic + Rubber
  • Weighs 53g / 1.9oz

I am a big fan of products that solve multiple problems. If you own an electro-acoustic guitar, you know that the feedback you can get from them is bad. It gets on your nerves and ruins the flow of your song. A simple yet effective solution to that problem is getting yourself a soundhole cover. Okay, great. One problem solved.

The second one is moisturization. There is an included sponge which you are supposed to moisten up, do not soak it up, just dampen it. Then install it, and boom, it will slowly but slowly moisturize your guitar. Problem number 2 solved—one more to go. In case of excessive moisture around the body of your guitar, you can use the included desiccant to absorb it all.

More often than not, these 3-1 in products tend to be gimmicky and aren’t reliable, but I found no such quality or reliability issues with this one. It also comes with a soft rubber cover, so it doesn’t damage the body of the guitar during installation. I do not know if I can call this the “best guitar humidifier” as it is much more than just that, but it is one of the best products that you can get.

Pros

  • Multipurpose product
  • Flexible enough to fit most acoustic guitars
  • Not just a gimmick like most 3-1 product
  • Measures to prevent water leakage
  • Soft rubber to protect the body from damage

Cons

  • It tends to fall inside the guitar unless careful.

6. OASIS HH COMBO OH-30 HUMIDIFIER-HYGROMETER

OASIS HH - best guitar humidifier

PRODUCT DETAILS

  • Combo of Humidifier-Hygrometer
  • Battery type: Lithium Manganese Dioxide
  • Suspension: hangs between strings
  • Dip-resistant polyvinyl acetate sponge
  • Maintains humidity for 15 days

Time to smarten up the humidification game with the Oasis HH Combo OH-30, a single-unit that is a combination of a humidifier and a hygrometer. It is a tad bit expensive than other humidifiers that we have reviewed so far but trusts me, and it is worth the money as this is hands down one of, if not the best, guitar humidifiers I have tested.

The OH-30 hands between the strings and insert itself in the soundhole while the hygrometer stays outside, providing you with vital information like temperature and humidity from its built-in display. It includes adjustable humidification settings and allows the user to re-calibrate the hygrometer.

This best guitar humidifier has a drip-resistant polyvinyl acetate sponge which is capable of retaining water up to 10 times its own weight and maintains humidity for approximately, give or take,15 days before needing to be refilled. It is expensive, and that is the only con there is but if money isn’t a major factor, go for it!

Pros

  • Sponge holds a ton of water.
  • The digital screen is very useful.
  • Reliable
  • Easy to use and effective

Cons

  • It won’t fit in a snug-fit case

7. PROLIX MUSIC REVOLUTIONARY GUITAR HUMIDIFIER PET-1

PROLIX - BEST GUITAR HUMIDIFIER

PRODUCT DETAILS

  • Made in USA
  • State-of-the-art polymer core
  • Can hold 75ml capacity
  • Expandable monofilament outer shell
  • High performance RH supplement
  • Leak Free

Prolix Music has aptly named their Pet-1 as a revolutionary guitar humidifier as it takes a very different approach than the traditional and common humidifiers out there. It gets rids of the sponges, the lids, the syringe design and has created a product that doesn’t need constant replacing of worn-out parts.

It is a polymer core with an expandable monofilament outer shell that is able to live inside your guitar and is able to retain up to 75ml of water. That amount of capacity is enormous and will provide an impressive amount of humidification for a long time. That water won’t leak out either as polymer core locks in water as a solid...unless you squeeze it. This made in USA humidifier is very easy to use.

Simply soak it up and let it rest inside the body of your guitar. When you want to remove it, simply do what you do when a guitar pick falls inside. Guitarists, you know what I am talking about. The best is that you can play while humidifying. One of the best guitar humidifier out there!

Pros

  • Enormous capacity
  • 100% recyclable
  • Easy to use and leak-free
  • Playing while humidifying

Cons

  • Do not squeeze!

8. MUSIC NOMAD MN300 HUMITAR ACOUSTIC GUITAR HUMIDIFIER

MUSIC NOMAD - BEST GUITAR HUMIDIFIER

PRODUCT DETAILS

  • Acoustic guitar humidifier
  • Humid-i-Bar sponge
  • Suspension: Between strings
  • Weighs 1.41 ounces

The Music Nomad MN300 is one of the best guitar humidifier out there (with one catch). It uses a high-quality, long-lasting Humid-i-Bar sponge synthetic sponge that is capable of holding up to 10x its weight in water and comes with its own anti-mess and anti-slip features.

It hangs from your strings and has a very low profile, so you can store it inside the case as well. The quick-flip top is very convenient as it allows you to easily see if the sponge is wet enough. This sponge is very long-lasting; it is basically a one-time purchase; however, it has one catch. You can only use distilled water. If you are okay with that, I see no other problem with this product.

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • One-time purchase
  • Convenient quick-flip
  • Special sponge to retain water

Cons

  • Need distilled water to use

9. GUITTO GHD-01 2-IN-1 HUMIDIFIER HYGROMETER

GUITTO

PRODUCT DETAILS

  • 2-1 humidifier-hygrometer
  • Single 10ml refillable bottle
  • Patent design
  • Weight: 40g
  • ABS plastic humidifier

Guitto GHD 2-1 guitar has a very old-school, retro vibe which looks excellent. I didn’t expect to be impressed, in terms of look, by a humidifier. It hangs from the soundhole down and can perform humidification and testing in real-time. The golden detection humidity meter always lets you see the amount of humidification.

It has a 10ml refillable bottle which isn’t a lot but is more than enough for a use or two. This 2-1 humidifier-hygrometer clamp on the body of the guitar at the edge of the soundhole. It is very easy to carry; it fits right in your pocket and low-key looks rather luxurious. It definitely is in a league of its own.

Pros

  • Luxurious design
  • Surprisingly affordable
  • Effective and easy to use

Cons

  • It tends to damage the guitar.

10. KYSER LIFEGUARD HUMIDIFIER

KYSER

PRODUCT DETAILS

  • It fits sound holes 3 3/8” to 3 3/4”
  • Made in the USA
  • For classical guitars
  • Weighs 1.6 ounces

If you tend to keep your guitar out on a stand, the Kyser Lifeguard humidifier is the way to go. This humidifier, made for classical guitar but does come in two sizes to fit other kinds of guitar, has a design wherein it sits on top of the soundhole.

This is a very advantageous position for a humidifier to be in, as from here, it can evenly and slowly distribute moisture through the body of the guitar. The Kyser Lifeguard is effective, inexpensive, and long-lasting. It is reusable, but once you get past the installation complications, it is one of the best guitar humidifier out there.

Pros

  • Effective and evenly distributes moisture
  • Easy to use
  • It stays inside the soundhole and easy to refill

Cons

  • Pain to insert

CONCLUSION

It may seem unnecessary to use a humidifier at first, but if you do not want your guitar to look like it’s been sitting in an attic (if you live in dry regions), investing in one of these is going to pay for itself very easily. I hope this article helped in choosing your ideal one. Thank you for reading!
