'Flash Delirium' is the first track revealed on MGMT's forthcoming release 'Congratulations,' out April 13. Dissected, the song has splices of synth back beats, pop-y drum beats, harmonic Beatles ('I Want to Hold Your Hand' era) "yeahs" and psychedelic '60s phrases, that encourage us to "Dance until the heart explodes and we'll make this place ignite." And don't expect the normal song layout -- there is no reference point to a verse or a chorus, despite a seamless evolution from beginning to end. But this is all intended, as the band not only moves away from their '90s Brit pop sound in 'Oracular Spectacular,' but puts focus on the album in its entirety -- which we clearly cannot conceptualize, just yet.
And the track ending quite abruptly -- climaxing similar to the Beatles 'A Day in a Life' -- confirms why the duo did not want to release any tracks as official singles: "We'd rather people hear the whole album as an album and see what tracks jump out rather than the ones that get played on the radio," Ben Goldwasser explained to NME.com. Tune into AOL Radio's New Indie First station to hear 'Flash Delirium.'
