Some say reggaeton is dying, so how does one explain the high number of search queries for reggaeton songs? Perhaps reggaeton is evolving, but it is by no means dying. Strong sales this year of sets by Daddy Yankee, Wisin & Yandel, and Tito El Bambino prove that these mainstays of reggaeton have not suffered a decline in popularity. Plus, the genre produced a new star Flex, whose breakout hit 'Te Quiero' won the Latin Grammy for Best Urban Song in 2008. See below for our list of the Top 10 Reggaeton Songs as rated by AOL Radio Listeners.
This former deejay-turned-singer from Panama reached the top of the charts in 2008 with his single and album 'Te Quiero.' The album featured a new "romantic style" reggaeton sound. His 2009 follow up album 'La Evolucion Romantic Style' produced the hits 'Dime Si Te Vas Con El' and 'Te Amo Tanto.'
William Omar Landron (aka Don Omar) is one of reggaeton's biggest stars. 'Pobre Diabla' (poor she-devil in English) is from his 2006 re-release The Gold Series of 'The Last Don,' following his 2003 debut 'The Last Don.' The latter was one of the first reggaeton albums to make waves internationally. Omar was also the first reggaeton artist to crack the top 10 on Billboard's Top 200 albums chart with his 2006 album 'King of Kings.'
Daddy Yankee is arguably the most popular and successful reggaeton artist on the planet. He is now a household name selling everything from soft drinks to footwear. He also has a hit movie under his belt, 2008's 'Talento De Barrio.' This reggaeton song was the second single from his 2004 album 'Barrio Fino,' which also spawned the worldwide hit 'Gasolina.'
Alexis & Fido were already stars in their native Puerto Rico when they released their 2007 sophomore album, 'Sobrenatural,' which produced this single and received two Latin Grammy nominations for Best Urban Song and Best Urban Album. Their songs have been featured on HBO's 'The Wire' and 'Entourage.'
'Pose' was the first official single from the 2008 movie soundtrack album 'Talento De Barrio', and the video was a huge hit on the video networks. Subsequent singles include 'Somos De Calle,' 'Llamado De Emergencia' and 'Que Tengo Que Hacer.' The soundtrack has sold over a million copies worldwide.
This Puerto Rican duo formed in 1995 and have since collaborated with R. Kelly, Ja Rule, Fat Joe, Nelly Furtado, Enrique Iglesias, 50 Cent, and T-Pain, just to name a few. 'Ahora Es' was the second single from their 2007 album 'Los Extraterrestres' (The extraterrestrials in English) which won the Latin Grammy for Best Urban Music Album.
Before going solo, Tito El Bambino already had several hits as part of the duo Hector & Tito. He released his first solo album in 2006 which featured collaborations with Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, and Beenie Man. His third solo album 'El Patron' was released in 2009 and featured the singles 'El Amor' and 'Mi Cama Huele A Ti.'
Tony Dize was a member of the reggaeton group Los Vaqueros before going solo and was discovered by Wisin & Yandel. He scored a minor hit with the song 'Quizas,' but it wasn't until the release of this reggaeton song that he started to receive international attention.
Don Omar deserves credit for adding new sounds and dance beats to his latest album 'iDon.' While the album was not his best effort commercially, it is critically his best work to date. The album has produced three reggaeton singles so far including this standout track.
'Sexy Movimiento' was the first single from the 2007 'Los Extraterrestres' album. That album won the Latin Grammy award for Best Urban Music Album and the Grammy award for Best Latin Urban Music Album. The duo was recently nominated for Best Alternative or Urban Album for their latest 'La Revolucion.'
