While 'I Should Have Known It' was a hard hitting riff-rocker, 'High in the Morning's' gentle opening organ solo and relaxed groove announce this song as a more sultry, laid back number right from the start. As guitarist Mike Campbell weaves in and out of the mix with stinging, tasteful leads, Petty bemusedly narrates the tale of a young man who goes after the wrong woman: "It hurts my heart to see a young man fall / Hurt me to my bones / To see him high in the morning / And by evenin' see him gone."
Campbell's recent bout of heat exhaustion temporarily derailed the band's current summer tour, causing them to postpone a show in Cleveland (where else, that poor city!). But t they're back at it, and, hopefully this time around, hydrated. If you're not lucky enough to hear 'High in the Morning' at one of the shows, you can check it out on AOL Radio's Adult Rock station, currently showcasing other 'Mojo' tracks.
