Opening with chiming keyboard melodies and string-laden accompaniment, the song builds up to the strobing club-worthy hook, as Katy sings: "Cause baby you're a firework / Come on show 'em what your worth / Make 'em go "Oh, oh, oh!""
Perry's inspiration for the track is based on an excerpt from the first chapter of Jack Kerouac's autobiographical novel, 'On the Road,' a book she was apparently introduced to by her fiance Russell Brand.
"You just gotta ignite the light / And let it shine / Just own the night / Like the Fourth of July," Perry passionately sings.
'Firework' follows 'Teenage Dream' and her summer anthem, 'California Gurls.' To hear Katy Perry on 'Firework,' head over to AOL Radio's New Pop First station.
