Katharine McPhee tells her loved one, 'It's Not Christmas Without You,' on a new song from her third studio album, 'Christmas Is the Time...(To Say I Love You).'
Opening with elongated string chords and sleigh bell effects, the piano ballad (with light percussion) features the now darker-haired McPhee longing for her loved one to be next to her during the holidays: "On this Christmas, I just wished you had stayed / And I wonder if you're thinking of me today / I don't what I'll do, it's not Christmas without you."
Released Oct. 12, the 11-track holiday compilation features the former 'American Idol' singer's favorite Christmas songs, co-produced by Allen Sides and Steven Miller. Classics make it on the album, such as the carol favorite 'O Holy Night,' a medley of 'Away in a Manger / O Little Town of Bethlehem,' and the trumpet-laden 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,' as well as the original song 'It's Not Christmas Without You.'
"Life on the road has made me realize how many people spend Christmas alone," McPhee explains when writing the song, 'It's Not Christmas Without You.' "When visiting military hospitals or even meeting fellow travelers working during the holidays, it made me reflect on how hard it can be to celebrate anything when you're away from those you love."
McPhee is not stranger to holiday tunes, as she previously recorded 'O Come All Ye Faithful' in 2007 and 'I'll Be Home for Christmas' in '09.
