The track combines a garage rock vibe reminiscent of early '00s bands like the Vines and Hives with urgent lyrics. "You can't stand by forever / You're a kid with a bullet soul," frontman Jon Foreman sings before shouting repeatedly, "Are you ready to go?"
The song was produced by Switchfoot with Mike Elizondo (Eminem, 50 Cent). Despite Elizondo's R&B/hip-hop background, Foreman tells New Release Tuesday that the producer eagerly helped push 'Bullet Soul' from its subdued demo version into a more explosive rock direction.
Switchfoot have been touring for months behind 'Hello Hurricane,' including a high-profile gig at Lollapalooza in August. Two earlier singles from the album, 'Mess of Me' and 'The Sound,' reached the top 20 on the Alternative Songs chart.
