Sticking to their heavy sound, 'Hollow' rocks the listener with a heavy drum kit and a powerful guitar riff. The sound is very reminiscent of the older version of Alice In Chains, but still has a unique sound to it provided by the different vocal quality of lead singer, William DuVall (who filled the void of the late Layne Staley). There's a subtle sense of the psychedelic in the song, but it's wrapped inside the harmony provided in the vocals from DuVall and guitarist, Jerry Cantrell. "Hollow as a mountain, all tunneled and drilled below/Hollow as a mountain crowned, with a cold, blue sky." The true star of the song is the shredding guitar solo from Cantrell. If that doesn't provide goosebumps, then the volume needs to be turned up to 11. Fans can be on the lookout for the official music video for 'Hollow' dropping sometime before the end of January.
'Hollow' is available for digital download now. Alice In Chain's fifth studio album still has no release date as of now, but is expected to drop in the spring. In the meantime, fans can rock out to 'Hollow' on AOL Radio's New Rock First.
