Ariana Grande is most well-known for her role as Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon sitcoms 'Victorious' and 'Sam & Cat.' Grande's musical career has been jumpstarted by the help of Mac Miller, who has written many songs together with Grande. The two have become friends and worked together on this single which samples the background beat from the 1998 R&B single 'Still Not a Player' by Big Pun featuring Joe. Grande surprisingly went the opposite route of teen stars, and delved into the R&B genre, as opposed to bubblegum pop. Her voice is reminiscent of early music from Mariah Carey, as she reaches very high vocal notes on top of a very simple, piano-driven beat. It's a good first single from Grande as she shows her vocal talents off to the world, but it remains to be seen whether she'll be a knock off of Carey or develop her own successful and unique musical career. With the help of Mac Miller, 'The Way' is catchy and has the potential to be a mainstream single.
The 19-year-old Grande will release 'Daydreamin' sometime in early 2013. The album is expected to include elements of pop and R&B, in addition to Motown throwback tunes. Check out 'The Way' right now on AOL Radio's New R&B First.
